When Michael Jackson died in 2009, he was barely reminiscent of the pop star that the world had fallen in love with in the 1970s and early ’80s.
Even more apparent than the bizarre and scandal-laden behavior was the drastic changes he made to his appearance. Here’s what he looked like as a teenager:
and this is what he looked like towards the end of his life.
He underwent dozens of procedures that cost hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars.
The addiction to plastic surgery began in the early ’80s, and continued through the end of his life. You can see here that he’s more or less similar looking to the Jackson 5-era Michael.
Many are left wondering what Michael would have looked like if he hadn’t underwent the array of cosmetic procedures which included, but aren’t limited to.
cheek implants, skin bleaching, chin restructuring, botox, fillers, and lip augmentation.
Those all followed his first procedure, a nose job in 1979.
He kept getting work done on his nose over the years as it seemed to get smaller and more pointed.
Later in his life, he’d had so much work done on it that the airways were blocked.
Fortunately for his career, it never affected his singing voice, though he wasn’t singing often at the end of his career.
His life was plagued with issues that ranged from child abuse to unfathomable wealth and popularity to identity and dysmorphic disorders. It seems that his odd appearance encapsulated all of that.
Below, you’ll see a composite of what experts think Michael Jackson would have looked like without any plastic surgery.
Needless to say, the image looks nothing like the 2000s Jackson that we knew.
Here he is. He looks…normal. It’s a little hard to imagine the face on the right as the King of Pop, but, then again, it’s hard to imagine today how the beloved little Michael of the Jackson 5 became the person on the left, too.
